Audi's mystery Geneva model has stepped into the spotlight! Earlier today leaked images of the RS5 appeared on the internet, but now Audi has released official pictures and all the details on the latest model to wear the hallowed RS badge.
>>SEE THE RS5 IN MOTION HERE<<
Power will come from Audi's venerable 4.2-litre V8 - the same engine used by the RS4 - but turned up to tyre-smoking 444bhp. Hooked up to a seven-speed S Tronic twin-clutch gearbox as standard and using Audi's legendary Quattro all-wheel drive, it should provide scintillating performance. The 0-60mph sprint takes 4.6 seconds and the top speed is limited to 155mph, although Audi can increase that to 174mph on request.

A new compact and lightweight centre differential means up to 85 per cent of the power can be sent to the rear tyres for a sporty driving experience. A rear differential can also be added to improve the on-limit handling. Suspension lowered by 20 millimetres and Audi's drive select system, which allows you to choose between three driving modes - comfort, auto and dynamic - should sharpen up the experience even further.
The RS5 has received a unique body treatment to the lesser-powered S5. A new front bumper with larger air intakes, blistered wheel arches and a new honeycomb grille without a horizontal bar through it are the most obvious changes.
At the back a re-profiled rear bumper sits above a blacked-out diffuser with the trademark RS oval tailpipes either side. Unique 19 or 10-inch alloys, revised LED taillights and a rear spoiler, that deploys automatically at 74mph, finish off the exterior tweaks.
On the inside electric sport seats take pride of place, while RS badging on the steering wheel and door sills, and an in-buiilt lap timer hint at the car's potential.
Although there's no official word yet, prices are expected to start from under £60,000 when the car goes on sale in the UK. First deliveries begin in October.
More details will be revealed closer to the car's unveil at Geneva next week.

THe A 5 gave Audi the looks to go with a good German product, however Audi's are not all perfect yet and with their design persistance of Baverian trimmed beards on all models, you have to question will people go for it, though if they buy an A8 /10 then personally they will continue the commune appearance - Overall I love the look of most of the car but not the seats and would welcome a comfort option ( lots of women my not want it otherwise) 4.2 V8 is a surprise as they moved to smaller engine option on S4 recently, but at the price against other cars out there its still highly desirable for many Audi fans and will sell well..given good press.
I want one in white with black wheels.
How much will i get for 1 lung, 1 kidney and 1 liver??????????
Another attempt by "Audi" to trump BMW's M3 and it will fail.
Another attempt by a BMW fanboy to justify his small-minded position.
Grow up, there are plenty of children's forums for you to post that kind of rubbish in.
You couldl write the article yourself- the (equiv) Merc will be slightly quicker and have more room, the BM will have more "drivers feel", whatever that is and the Jag will be too flawed in too many places and the Aston too expensive. Is this now the default thinking man or womans choice ( as I ve seen a lot of womn driving A5s ) for exec bullet train for the road?
The lap timer is the only thing that smacks of being superfluous and perhaps more worryingly a german engineers stab at humour(!)
It will sound terrific, look honed and agressive in the true quattro tradition and people may still wave you out at junctions..
Another bmw hating audi fanboy acting all superior, Johnbmwx6 is just stating a fact, for years Audi have played second fiddle to bmw in the M vs RS battle (audi will tell you this themselves) because their cars a mainly 4 wheel drive they have a weight disadvantage , although this looks like there most serious effort to date and with the extra hp it might just pip the M3, sadly the M3 is now 2.5 yrs old and is due a facelift and slight power hike, so this game of power tennis will go on, which is fine by all car fans
Pointless exercise. Where oh where can you use this performance sensibly? Great, sit in a car that can go like stink and nowhere to try it out except for track days. Kill joy I may be, but its the way of the world now. When I was young you could drive at any speed and no upper limit. Trouble is most cars then were probably leathful at those speeds.

Larm3v8- Having owned and enjoyed high end E30's E36s and E39s I'm well positioned to make that comment. The A5 comment is meant for the hear and now and to suggest BMW hating on my part is myopic in the extreme
Oh dear, another childish BMW fanboy. Go to the same children's forum, I think CBeebies have one for you.
Just for the record I'm not an Audi fanboy - never owned one - I'm just a car lover. One who's enthused about the latest offerings from both Audi AND BMW (amongst others) and isn't going to let a little petty fanboy attitude prompt ME to post anti-brand, childish nonsense on any new car I might see as a threat to my chosen brand's perceived superiority.
Stop it. If you don't like it, just don't bother posting your fanboy nonsense. It's pathetic.
I have no doubts that this is a superb machine. However, when the RS badge was initially used by Audi it denoted something very special indeed. The RS2 was more like a Porsche than an Audi and the original RS4 was worlds apart from an ordinary A4 avant. There was something about those cars that really had the wow factor. The RS2 and original RS4 still command amazing used values and are both iconic. This new RS5 seems a little too formulaic to me and not quite radical or special enough to adorn the RS badge. Will it be a future classic? Perhaps. But likely without the legendary status of the earlier cars.
...and this is it.
Why do people insist on knocking things? If all of that energy went into looking for positives, and improving stuff, how much better life would be. And how much quicker it would be to read posts. See how my comments fell into the trap, as I first felt obliged to knock!
I like it. 4.2 V8 hooked up to a 7 speed S Tronic box, sounds pretty good to me and it looks great. I'll have one the same colour as the pics please. And that interior is Audi's usual high standards. Yes, BMW's are ok and I've driven a few of them myself over the years, although never actually owned one, but I HAVE owned an Audi and I wish I still had it now.
I think this car is well worthy of wearing the RS badge.
The 350 BHP V8 S5 with 4 wheel drive is slower on the track than the 300 BHP straight 6 rear wheel drive 335i offered by BMW...
Then how can this 444 BHP V8 be a match for the 420 BHP V8 M3??? The only reason why I would pick this over the Beamer is because it looks a million times better than the Beamer, but then I will remember that the Beamer is 10K cheaper!
Agree with you entirely Simon. I've owned RS2, RS4 and RS6plus all from new, and the appeal to me was the nicheness - they all came only as avants and in limited numbers (initally).
I'm sure this car will be amazing, and with a different kind of appeal to that of whichever BMW you want to compare it with. But for me, aside of the more non-performance niche models e.g. allroad where Audi has few competitors (and yes, I have an allroad and a Scout), Audi seem to be further diluting the principles on which the first RS products came to market.
That said - roll on RS3!

I have owned an RS2, RS6 and a BMW M6 and M3 and they are all stunning BUT I must query the price of £60K quoted in the article. My Bavarian friend insists that the entry level RS5 will be €77K (= £70K ish) and with extras you could easily get to €100K (= £90K ish) ! Compare that to fully loaded M3 for just less than £60K ! Same performance between an M3 and an RS5 and perhaps the dct gearbox improves the M3 even more ? Ask your AUDI dealer what the price is on the RS5 and they will not give you an answer.
Just wait a few years and you can have it for £15k. At that price, It'll make a perfect supercar bargain :o)
Like the R8, Audi should offer the V10 as an option. Those who have an R8 V10 say its the e-ticket. With this engine, the RS5 can then compete with the Ferrari front engined stable. A tuner will likely do a one off, but Audi should do it themselves.
tend to be bought by overpaid illiterate footballers and drug dealers who will get bored with them- wait until 18 months and get a second hand one for half the price!!
