New Fiat Uno arrives in Brazil

Fiat are reviving the Uno by launching a second-generation of the cheeky hatch in South America.

Fiat Uno

05th May 2010

Fiat are hoping that this new Uno will be a South American number one! Official pictures of the second-generation of the Uno have been released, with the car primed to go into production at the company’s Betim factory in Brazil.

The new Uno will come with two “fuel-flex” engines, giving varying power outputs depending on whether you run them on bio-ethanol or petrol. The base model is a  1.0-litre unit putting out 73bhp if you fill it with alcohol and 75bhp with petrol. The other option is a 1.4-litre version (85bhp on alcohol, 88bhp on petrol). Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The new Uno will be a roomy hatchback rather than a supermini, and slots comfortably into the Fiat range between the current Panda and the Grande Punto. At 3.77m long it has an nearly 20cm of extra room over the Panda, and is wider as well.

This model shown in the pictures is a high-riding crossover version called the ‘Way’, which has better ground clearance and chunky colour contrasting bumpers. Inside, the cabin is a little more basic than we’re used to,  but the body design takes several cues from the smaller Panda, which has lead to speculation that the Uno is set to replace the Panda in Europe.

Although it will be on sale in several South American countries, starting with Brazil, Fiat has yet to confirm whether it will appear in the U.K.

Ugly as hell, Inside and out, what was Fiat thinking?

As a basic car, it seems to work. That's the way we're heading these days.
I like the way it can squeeze through very narrow gaps (picture 5).

Butt!

The previous Uno was a box.. there's only so much you can do with a box.. The box is pretier except the rear (Half Punto anyone?) Go to Italy & no one there dares to wear last years fashion or copy another's (Is this a Renault anyone?)
Uno.. Oh No..

Uh Oh its a Renault!

Put a third window in and what have you got? A redesigned Renault 4. This is just an awful design, Fiat and nothing like the old Uno original.

Uno??

From what I can see, this monstrosity has absolutely nothing in common with the original Uno and should not be called as such.

Yes, Uno!

Hi, that's the "New Uno" like Fiat call. He has two engines: 1.0 8V (75hp with alcohol or 73 with petrol) this site wrote wrong. The 1.4 8V is a powertrain engine by General Motors bláhhh; it's have 88hp with alcohol and 85hp with petrol (this site is wrong again). The version showed here is called Attractive (hard to believe...), not "Way".
Ok, he isn't so nice but do 13 km with 1 litre of petrol. Hã! The cheaper version is £10,000 in Brazil.
See more photos and a technical avaliation on http://www2.uol.com.br/bestcars/testes3/fiat-uno-2011-1.htm (in portuguese, but you can use google translate).
Bye.

The 1.4 it's not from GM

Sorry Antony, but his engine it's not from GM. He have a FPT (Fiat Power Train) 1.4 Fire EVO and also has variable valve timing.
Fiat never used the GM 1.4 engine in Brazil, just the 1.8 8v and the 1.8 16v that was on Fiat Stilo. This year Fiat will introduce its new 1.6 16v and 1.8 16v engines to replace GM that will finally say goodbye to Fiat cars off Brazil. Finally we will have real engines again.

Bye!

Ugly!

This is downright ugly! Fiat have not come up with a 500 rival in their range. This certainly won't.sell in any significant numbers.

I dunno, I quite like it. I've enjoyed the aesthetics in the new Fiat range. Maybe there is a part of me that loves American car styling, I am actually thinking of getting a Fiat Grande Punto Van for work.
