Shock 612-based shooting brake in line for Geneva debut, versatile concept is marque’s first-ever ‘official’ estate

Ferrari turns practical? That’s the
shock news from Maranello, where a shooting brake concept based on the 612 Scaglietti is being prepared for
the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The first result from a new, in-house styling team, the estate has been overseen by Fiat Group design boss and ex-Pininfarina head Lorenzo Ramaciotti. Although its name has not yet been confirmed, the two-door, V12 concept has been produced for two reasons: to see how far Ferrari can stretch its brand away from its traditional supercars, and to give the 612 Scaglietti a fitting send-off as the four-seat super coupé, launched in 2004, nears the end of its run.

“We know there can never be a Ferrari SUV,” one source insisted. “But we would like to find out what we can put the marque’s DNA into and still have it accepted as a Ferrari.” The replacement for the 612 Scaglietti is also imminent. Codenamed F151, the new two-door coupé will join Ferrari’s GranTurismo line-up to sit alongside the California, but it will be priced at around £230,000 – considerably more than the £143,870 currently charged for the drop-top.

Ferrari sources have described the forthcoming car as “more versatile”, hence why the designers are testing the water with this radical and roomier concept version of its predecessor. With the firm also ruling out a four-door saloon earlier this year, a fastback design for the next-generation GT makes the most sense.

Despite its revolutionary looks, the 612 Scaglietti concept car isn’t the first Ferrari wagon. The company has built plenty of one-offs for wealthy Middle Eastern and Asian buyers, including a 456 GT-based Pininfarina-bodied shooting brake in the early Nineties for the Sultan of Brunei.

Back to the future

Not too shabby but has a lot of a twenty year old Volvo in it.

Influenced by?

Useful, for the bankers, but not special, looks like a Fiat Punto from the rear.

Ferrari 250 GT SWB Breadvan

a car for the dog to come along as well and enjoy the V8 sound. i would prefer they came out with a streched 4-door rapide competitor rather than an estate or shooting brake version. its more fitting for a supercar company and by the looks i reckon it will win over hearts and souls.

Cut and shut?

To me the back looks like a Scirroco.

Lovely car, my dog would enjoy it

Not a real estate

Nice try Ferrari, but this is not quite a real estate. It doesn't look bad at all, but if it had an extra pair of doors, I think it could be better.

SUV ?

“We know there can never be a Ferrari SUV,” one source insisted.
Why ?
Porsche produces what is probably the worlds most expensive and ugliest SUV around. Why not have some competition from a slightly more elegant yet basically useless Ferrari SUV (Super Ugly Vehicles).

Nice concept.

This reminds me of the Aston Martin Shooting Brake, a very elite and rare car. I guess, this is very much an artist's impression, the final production model will look much better than this. Could work for Ferrari but has to be desirable and beautiful!

I have no idea how that can be described as an estate. Its a Ferrari 612 with a hybrid of Punto/Mito grafted onto the rump. Surely its more of a hatch than estate?
I like it though. Something different to the norm can sometimes be a good thing, and this proves it.
No doubt the images are not Ferraris though. They are more than likely typically naff AE photoshop. I await judgment until I see genuine images.

That's not a 612, it's a California. Which makes much more sense for a shooting brake. It would be nice if the changes along the sides made it to the coupe.

This is an upscaled Alfa MiTo, not an ugly car , but i hope Ferrari can do better than this. I can't explain the price otherwise
