Take a look at the Range Rover Evoque's new rival. These images, leaked from the European Patent Office and picked up by a blog site in the US, show how the MINI Paceman will look when it arrives in the UK in 2012.
The car was originally revealed in 'concept' form at January's Detroit Motor Show where BMW board member, Ian Robertson, gave the model the green light for production.
Given that the show car was pretty-much production ready anyway, it'll come as no surprise to learn that the images filed with the Patent Office, and subsequently leaked, reveal a car that looks identical, getting the same sweeping rear roofline and three-door layout, which sets it apart from the Countryman.
Based on that car, it is likely to be built alongside it at the Magna Steyr factory in Graz, Austria, sharing the same engines - including a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol - and platform with four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive options.
Before the Paceman arrives, MINI will launch the hatchback-based Coupe and then a convertible Roadster model in early 2012.

This will be the same price as the new 1-series, and who would rather have a mini? The evoque is very nice, and it would always beat a Mini.
Look at the rear lights, it seems to me as mini have copied aston martin's zagato roadster too.
Frankly, for city use, i think a 1 series is much better than the evoque and a mini, as it has a much better engine, it is still really spacious, and is loaded with tech. Also its residual values will be strong, and the build quality of the 1 series will be much better than the evoque.
the trouble with the one series is its rear wheel drive. who wants rear wheel drive when there are plenty front wheel or all wheel drive alternatives that provide as much fun for way less cost.

I like it but i'm thinking there'll come a day soon when there are just too many Mini derivatives. It dilutes the brand.
dja55 - new 1-series is FWD. Makes no difference, most drivers of the previous RWD car had no idea it was RWD!
What is it with Mini? have they completely lost the plot? stick to your core business - small fun cars. They have lost all their original core values regarding value.
Well done BMW another skip on wheels! And why call them Mini when they are more Maxi size? (with poor packaging)
6 years ago i had £15,000 cash in hand, and i went looking at the choices, looked at the Mini range. The salesman came over, i told him that the car was short on room....the salesman turned to me and told me to buy a F***ing bus!!!!....nice salesmen too.
Surprised how good this looks. As for Yeti3s comments, IYHO these bigger Mini derivatives may be skips on wheels and personally they are not for me either, but they sell by the skip load so its good business for BMW. You cant knock that.
