Renault Twizy Colour announced

The Renault Twizy two-seater city car is coming in March 2012 to the UK and Renault has just announced pricing for a new trim level.

‘Colour’ models will sit between the previously announced Urban and Technic versions and will cost from £6,690. That’s £260 more than entry-level Urban Twizys and £450 less than Technic models. 

The Renault Twizy Colour comes with white bodywork and the roof comes in either Urban Blue, Ivy Green or Flame Orange. Alternatively, buyers can opt for black bodywork with orange panels.

Whichever colour scheme you choose will be continued on to the upholstery and glovebox. Colour coordinated alloy wheels and scissor doors can be specified for £350 and £455 respectively. 

All Twizys come equipped with 13-inch wheels, a heated windscreen, onboard computer and a three metre long charging cable. There’s also a front airbag and immobiliser. 

The Renault Twizy can travel up to 50mph and has a range of around 60-miles. On top of the £6,690 price-tag buyers will also pay £40 a month to hire the batteries that power the Twizy.

Extra cost?

Great idea, great little car for the city, but £40 extra cost a month? Okay now fuel tax, no road tax, but Renault make you pay £40, the car is expensive for what it is and because of that there should be no extra cost, the car will sell well but is the extra cost fair?

Very short charging cable

Only 3m charging cable - why so short? I'd have expected two to three times that for it to be useful.

Doors with windows? Heater? Radio?

Massively over the top

If the objective was to build an ultra-basic single-seater (a la no sides) they could have stripped it down a lot more than this. This probably weighs twice as much as it could have, and consequently needs more batteries than it should, all of which escalates the cost. At such slow speeds they may well have got away with a 3 wheel design instead.

Battery hire

I was very excited with the twizy then i saw the battery hire and was put off completely, is this a road tax replacement or another way of paying for the use of an electric car. What a shame. Think ill stick with my smart car.
