"should cost from around £18,000"
As ever, Volvo going for the "premium" tag - it won't compete with the Golf or Focus at those prices, more A3 and 1-series territory
"We have produced these illustrations to give you the best idea"
Because we all know that nobody has actually seen the car yet, outside of Volvo at least!
Anyway, nice car and I think it will do well for Volvo. Starting at £18k actually sounds very good to me. The 5 door Golf starts at £16.5k, but at that money it is poverty spec lumbered with a super slow 85 bhp engine! Base V30 will be more comparable to 5 door Golf Match 1.4 TSI which costs £19k.
Hopefully the back looks better than this though
These images look fantastic, and surely a good indication of what the V30 will look like finally, I am glad Volvo are going to bring this car out, would much rather have one of these than a BMW or Audi.
Only thing that bugs me (contradicting what I just wrote maybe) is that I wish Volvo would stop trying to be be 'sexy' and 'sporty', most people loved their cars for the practicality, honesty and durability they offered, now they are following the big German brands rather than going thier own way. I guess we now have Skoda to fill the gap Volvo gave up, and look how wellcthey are doing.
I've always liked the Volvo Marque but ironically never liked Saab. I think past models like the 1980's 700 series were fantastic cars! One of the best cars I've ever riden in! People forget but Sweden is a large and cold climate country, Volvo's have to be designed to withstand extreme Swedish climate and conditions! I think nowadays Audi has taken the thunder and mantle from Volvo somewhat but it seems Volvo is back to form now and thats pleasing to see because it's one of the best car makes in the world! This V30 looks like a winner! and from a Design point of view looks very interesting and bold! rather look at this than some of the boring, dreary best sellers that plight UK roads!
I think £18k is optimistic when you can get a base Focus or Mazda 3 for £4k less. My guess is that they will discount quite aggressively once the car has been on sale for a year or so. This is definitely a move in the right direction for Volvo, who have mistakenly neglected the lower end of their range over the last few years.
I agree that Volvo has lost ground by trying to be cool and sexy, when that sector of the market is comprehensively catered for by German marques. Volvo isn't really very Swedish any more, but there will always be room for safe, reliable and enduring cars - and Volvo has produced more of these than most.
I have had 4 Volvos to date - all good except the bumpy ride.
Volvo have not been good on suspension so far.
