Gallery: The Nismo Festival

From Super GT racers to modified road cars and a host of stands, the Nismo Festival is the place to be for Nissan fans

The Nismo Festival is a celebration of all things fast and Nissan. It's held at the incredible Fuji Speedway two hours outside of Tokyo and the day-long event encompases every single type of Nismo-tuned product, from mighty 500bhp GT500 GT-R racing cars to the Leaf Nismo EV and classic Sunny racers.

The races are more of a parade than track battles - and if you're used to the grandeur, variety and sheer size of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, you might be a touch disappointed.

However, you can get really close to the cars in the paddock, it has an authentic Japanese tuner vibe – which will have you lusting after a modified Skyline – and there are some interesting stands, selling all manner of goods from personalised Japanese number plates to turbochargers and radio control drift cars.

It's certainly a great day out and with Nissan's Nismo brand expansion, the Nismo Festival is only going to become more important.

The track itself was built in 1966 and is actually owned by Toyota. It was originally designed as a NASCAR-style oval before the owners re-designed it.

These Datsun Sunny racers have high-revving twin-cam four-cylinder engines and sound almost as loud as the GT500 GT-Rs.

GT500 GT-R racers are incredibly fast, loud and aggressive to look at.

They're a long way removed from the GT-R road car, being rear-drive with bespoke chassis and 500bhp V8 engines.

Racers battle it out in the first corner. Originally this had 30 degree banking, but it was changed to a flat turn in 1974.
