Lightweight Donkervoort GTO gets 2.5-litre turbo from Audi TT RS

Dutch car manufacturer Donkervoort has released images and details of its latest creation – the GTO. 

The little known car-maker has previously produced the D8, D8 270 and D8 GT which were all powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged Audi engine producing 270bhp in the most recent cars. 

The GTO still gets an Audi powerplant, but this time it’s the 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo used in the TT RS. In the Donkervoort it produces 340bhp, but this figure can be increased to 400bhp at the touch of a button. The first 25 GTOs produced come with an engine that’s 30kgs lighter than it is in the Audi. 

Unlike every other Donkervoort produced, the GTO does come fitted with traction control. It’s still bound to be a handful on the road though as there’s no ABS or power steering. 

Expect deliveries in the middle of 2012 with a price-tag of around £100,000.

Only its mother could love it.

Presumably the designer previously did gargoyles for churches. Why on earth do they make their cars so wilfully ugly, just as Lancia currently do. It's not the world's cleverest USP.

You got it's most ugle pictures. Why?

Why is that? The car is introduced over the weekend and I've seen many photo''s of it already in Dutch media, and nowhere I've seen these photographs that you show. They really are the most ugle photographs one can make. You can even see the distortion of the wide angle lens that pulls the sides of the car even more backwards. Same lens is used at the backside photo.

Look this car up on the internet and one can see this is actually a good looking car, no worse in appearance than any Caterham!
And it's good too: the prototype set blazingly fast times on the Ring!
