With that pricing, they'll be lucky!
French car = garbage. Why anyone with a modicum of sense would pick this over a BMW 3-Series is beyond me. (And for the record, I do not own or drive any BMW).
This is right on par down there with the trash MG6.
No Joke Freakrunner. If you knew the history of the company you would understand better. They can't be that bad as in some of it's cars BMW and Citroen use the same engines. The build quality in this car is on par with the Germans aswell. So stop being prejudiced and stop using past references in regard to French cars of the past.... this is the future.
I live in Spain and that is not the feeling in Europe, hence PSA sell more cars than BMW...get real..
they just cant do electrics thats all (yes i have owned french cars)
With that lovely quality interior!! I'm looking forward to this.
I agree it looks a nice car and I'm sure the build quality has improved a lot over the years (my friend has a DS3 and it's comparable to Mini standards)...but £32k for the top of the range model??? NO THANKS!
A little bit expensive, I think I will wait a year and pick up used one for half price.
This idea that the French can't do electrics needs to die a death. Their CAN networks are exactly the same as anyone else's. That's not to say that everything else around it might not go wrong...
Of my 3 recent French cars, the electrics were about the only bits that did behave!
Still, is that any different from any other manufacturer these days?
As for the DS5, nice car, shame it doesn't have proper Citroën suspension...
Though i think too much chrome / fussy detail in certain areas. nice creases under side window line. cabin looks very inviting, i don't think DS series will depreciate as much as everyone thinks though. is a bit pricey ok in top of range models.
I know the history well enough thanks, to know that this POS will lose value faster than a brick in water with robustness that fails with age. Bet you wouldnt hand £32k of your own cash for this steaming pile of dung...no need to reply to that BTW.
citroen5947 - yeh, they "sell" more - but at what price? What are their margins? Shitroen are hardly the paragon of automotive profitability. And frankly, who gives a crap how many they sell in Europe. Last time I checked, the car market was global, not regional. Duh.
The discount AND the depriciation on a Citroen is specific to UK not Global as you want to play it...a 6 month old C6 went for 1000 euro more than a new one in a Valencian dealer...as for quality Jeremy Clarkson said the DS3 was one of the best cars he has ever driven, Top Gear car of the year, in Germany it had had rave reviews ahead of there own BMW mini, the DS4 car of the year in many European countries..Top Gear and 5th Gear have raved about the DS5 so you better tell them not me...Just remember the were people like you saying the same about BMW they were the British Leyland of Germany...thankfully no one listened to them either...and just remember MOST of the things on the car we drive today were Citroen first, monocoquie chassis, front wheel drive, etc and still today suspension standard BMW want thousands for....but we won't agree I like cars that are different, and for the record BMW world wide are not a big pruducer, Thats Toyota, GM, Volkswagen, PSA..
citroen where an inovative motor manufacturer many years ago fact the fact that rolls royce and bentley, used under patent thier hydro suspension, and maserati gave them an engine many years ago supports that, but unfortunately they now lack the odd but lovely diffrences as for a rival to the new bmw 3 series please , if i offerd you a car for three years be honest which one would you want to be seen in ? citroen bmw, or even the lates ford mondeo peugeot citroen and renault plese try harder or we will all be driving kia or hyundi
As a rally fan I have come to admire what Citroen have done in recent years, I agree a bit with Citroen5947 they have come on leaps and bounds recently. Most mags I have read have said the quality of the DS range is on appar with German cars, but I just think BM are getting a bit boring now each new model looks the same as the last, this new DS5 looks class, the DS4 looks better in the metal, so the DS5 should look great, shared BMW engines I believe and BMW want to do more with PSA, so they do not agree with FreakRunner......
Just a little point, Maserati did not give Citroen an engine, Citroen owned Maserati, they sold them to Fiat...And people who drive Citroens like say Alfa's just want something off the ordinary, my daughter has a BMW and her husband a Merc, I find them totally boring, sorry....
"Top Gear and 5th Gear have raved about the DS5 so you better tell them not me.."
Like I care what they say? People buy cars that they like - not solely because TG or 5thG like them. Duh.
Fact remains unchanged that the car is a joke, the pricing, residuals, reliability and everything else is a joke. I'd take you more seriously if you said you spent £32k of your own money on this steaming POS. Until then, dream on with your French Fondant Fancies...you amuse me to no end! LOL
PEOPLE buy cars you say you have shot yourself in both feet..lol, as citroen5947 said PSA sell more cars than BMW to PEOPLE I would think, and in Europe where I am guessing you live only VW sell more cars ans they cheat really by adding Seat and Skoda to there figure...your making youself look silling.. and look at Skoda not my cuppa tea but they have come from laughing stock to quallity, thing move on in the industry......
Just to add, it is leaking out that BMW who have thrown millions into the Mini WRC to take on Citroen are about to throw the towel in already, Citroen are of course 7 times world champions and are believed to spend a lot less than the mighty Ford ....
Sigh.
I defer back to my point about profits/margins as well. So they sell more than BMW. Big deal. But are they as profitable on a per sale basis?
And no, I dont live "in Europe" so your BS assertion about adding sales from the VW group are meaningless. Only one with shot feet (and brains it seems) are the blind Shitroen loving folks.
So now your a shareholder....lol lol your better buy a Caterham, if your going profit by car....lol
You have to laugh at Freakrunner, he keeps moving the goalpost, as you say his now bothered what profit they make, do not think many custermers ask that when buying a car, thats a new one on me as a sales person...lol
You must be mistaken. I've changed no "goalposts" whatsoever.
I know its out of the remit of your knowledge, so I'll make it simple for you. Customer wants discounts on car = lower margin.
Hope that helps.
So tell us, when will you and your Citroen loving friend be paying your £32k each for this pile of crap? If you're not, then perhaps STFU and come back with something worth debating, and not just because you like the pretty pictures Autoexpress have for you. Duh.
There is a curiously repetitive air about the nature of the abuse hurled by the anti Citroen brigade. Surely this cannot be the result of "homework being passed along the back of the class"?
My own experience of three Citroens owned has been satisfactory as was that of my late father who also had three.
I am not able to comment on the DS5 as, like everyone else in the thread, I have not seen, let alone ridden, in one.
I regret that the DS5 is not as distinctive relative to its contemporaries as was the DS19. Why must the front end of the DS5 and most cars today look like an Audi? Offering leather massage seats should not be the DS5's primary distinction.
Its true that these cars depreciate fast in the UK because people know that the build quality is still not on par with other brands at similar prices. I still see brand new French cars electrics going wrong and its been like this for the past 10 years so if they can't get a simple thing like that right then people will continue to turn their noses up to these cars. This car is over priced when you compare an Audi and BMW for similar prices which are far better build quality. I feel the best part of French cars are the comfort of the seating, put that together with a Jap enginer and an Audi shell and you would have the best car in the world :()
I have posted in the DS3 thread as I test drove one for 3 weeks and it was a fantastic car to drive. Driving position, engine response, looks, all very very good but I would worry about the long term reliability of the car. I have seen a DS5 at a show and it does look very nice but the price isn't nice! Too much for this.
What car do you drive. I drive a Merc E class Convertible and a Mitsubishi ASX AWD.
Good for you.
I can answer your last question...He lives in the north of England, in a council house, reads the Sun, drive a 7 yr old BMW with dice as standard....lol
freakrunner, you must of had a very bad experience with a citroen? if so i understand annoyance, i spent big money on a new top spec VW Scirocco TDI in May 09, sold it at big loss 16mths later, WHAT A PILE OF SH--E. I will NEVER NEVER touch that marque ever ever again because of it, & VW's ''nothing can go wrong with our cars'' attitude. just for the record, my present Mini Cooper S is an absolute blinder, & that gorgeous engine is made by peugeot!! Car has its faults also, though. my 10reg Nissan qashqai+2 had front discs replaced after 3k km., underbody has v bad corrosion, needs new protection coating, Nissan want me to pay half, passenger power window can just about close up, drivers door speaker distorting like hell, at present i have clocked up 8.5k km., & no it was'nt driven through a flood or on the beach.+ a lot of early qashqai's had rear shocks replaced. I wont be touching another Nissan. There just seems to be a lot of faults with cars nowadays.
It seems fair enough Citroen pricing this DS5 at BMW 3 series levels, it's a classy looking machine and they seem to be doing good with quality and build these days.
With the 3 series selling more than the Mondeo in the UK I reckon there's a lot of people out there who want an alternative from the obvious german saloons, looking forward to seeing it in the metal.
Compared to other Citroens, the DS5 looks expensive and like it's priced alongside a 3 series. But a 320d sport with the same equipment as a DS5 DSport 2.0 HDi would cost £38k - £10k more than the DS5.
So, have you spent your £32k on this POS Frenchmobile?
Come back to us when you have otherwise, seriously, STFU.
You can really have no idea of whether this vehicle is a POS (yes I know what this is an acronymn for) or not. Let's confine ourselves to matters such as price, appearance or nomenclature until any of us have had an opportunity to sample the vehicle, let alone own it. (It is beyond my means or needs as, I suspect, it will be for many of those who have such robust opinions about it).
Also can we avoid vulgarities whether neat or by implication, about this vehicle or any other one being discussed?
Quite right, sir. As a Merc E Classs driver, i was asked to go and take a look over the DS5 for WhatCar mag 6 months ago, and had a good hour or so prodding and poking around. No driving unfortuneately. I must say that this is NOT what you'd expect from Citroen. The build is up there with my Merc and the design of the interior is suberb. Quality of the materials are fine, and the match of VW and BMW. I'm not quite brave enough to say that they match Audi though.
People should not assume, until they have firm evidence. As i said earlier in this thread, I am really interested in the Hybrid 4 version, but will leave it a while after launch to listen to ownership reports.
Interesting that Top Gear Mag (not the program) have confimred the DS5 as the family car of the year
I think that the jounalist who wrote the article in TG mag was Tom Ford from Fifth Gear, and he gave it the thumbs up.

Thank you for that, now go wash your mouth out, and when you've done that try learning some manners.
Your mother may find your command of English impressive but I don't. You're not at home now, kindly keep your foul mouthed language there.
Do not waste your breath on this person, he says come back when I have spent money on these, well I have 3 Citroens at present, the most recent was a 200bhp DS4 a brilliant car have done 12,000kms in it, the C5 it replaced took me to Africa, ferrys were needed, lol , Egypt and crossed the Arctic Circle completing 200,000kms trouble free..and my daughter prefers it to her BMW.....
The problem citroen are always going to face is... whilst they may be targeting a premium market it is ultimately a 'citroen'.
Very interesting looking car with a very looking interior though.
Here we go again! The badge, the badge, the badge..... The old British obsession.
Before the war, the Delahaye company made motor lorries and very staid passenger cars. Then someone had the inspiration to tune the largest lorry engine and slip it into a sporting car chassis. Result, the Type 135 Delahaye, an Art Deco icon and a very nasty surprise to such as Bugatti and Talbot-Lago. Things do come around again.
