Wild Colt is canned

Mitsubishi's plan for a hot Colt is now history. In a dramatic U-turn, the company has gone back on a promise to make an Evolution version of every model in its range. Instead, it will reserve the hallowed performance badge for the Lancer.

A spokeswoman told Auto Express: "The Evo always has to be the ultimate Mitsubishi, and we wouldn't want to dilute that with anything but our most extreme model."

We brought you pictures of the Colt Evo in issue 818. However, all is not lost for hot hatch fans - the maker's UK importer is working on its own fiery version of the supermini to top the existing 148bhp CZT. Although it won't be badged Evo, the 200bhp front-wheel-drive model should be more than a match for the forthcoming Renaultsport Clio.
