GM boffins give pedals the push

General Motors is preparing for the day when fuel cell engines are placed inside a car's chassis, and steering and braking is done without the need for columns or pedals.

The American giant has patented an idea to fill the resulting empty area under the bonnet with a material such as aluminium honeycomb. Scientists say this will absorb impacts before they can reach the cabin.
