New MINI Cooper S spied

The new MINI Cooper S has been spied completely undisguised in a new, clearer set of photographs than the last time we caught the brand new MINI.
Spotted while on an advertising shoot, the new Cooper S clearly sports new face, featuring headlamps surrounded by LED running lights in a near-complete circle. The large chrome-rimmed grille and oversized taillamps are both inspired by the recently unveiled MINI Vision concept.
As a sporty Cooper S model, this car does get a few bespoke touches like an S badge on the grille, an air intake in the bonnet, two centrally mounted exhausts and a small roof mounted spoiler.
MINI recently told us that the Cooper S will be powered by a new 2.0-litre petrol turbo engine producing 189bhp and 280Nm of torque – this will be tuned up to 220bhp for John Cooper Works models.
Meanwhile, the standard Cooper will use a three-cylinder 1.5-litre engine with 134bhp and the Cooper D will get a 114bhp 1.5-litre engine. All the engines will be offered with manual or automatic gearboxes.
MINI will also offer adaptive dampers for the first time, including two different settings: Sport and Comfort. Through the system MINI will be hoping to address criticisms of the current car’s firm ride.
The next-generation MINI hatchback family will be unveiled at the LA Motor Show in November.
