Hi-tech extras top wishlist

Parking sensors are among the 'must-haves' for motorists in the 21st century, as driver-assisted technology goes through the sunroof.

Electronics firm Bosch says hi-tech help systems could soon be introduced across the board - not just in luxury cars - in a bid to boost safety. One in five motorists already chooses parking sensors, while adaptive cruise control - which monitors your distance to the car in front - is also proving popular.

Thirty years ago, the 'must-have' wishlist was very different (image), but today's drivers are spoiled for choice - and there's more to come. Predictive safety systems, which automatically react to dangerous situations, rear-end collision warnings and assisted emergency braking are all set to appear across manufacturer ranges.

"It's only a matter of time before this technology trickles down to city cars," said a Bosch spokesman.
