Here's the pictures that prove Peugeot's latest family saloon is nearing production. Named the 408, this latest car is aiming to take the fight to the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia.
Sources claim that the car will represent more of an evolution in style from the 407, as opposed to the complete revolution that took place between the 406 and 407.
Under the skin is an all-new chassis, based on that which underpins Citroen’s latest C5. Hydropneumatic suspension and adaptive headlamps are also expected
Power is likely to come from a range of diesel and petrol engines as well as a new hybrid drivetrain. Technology similar to the diesel-hybrid pioneered in the 3008 will find its way into the 408.
Economy figures of under 100g/km CO2 should make this latest hybrid Peugeot the class leader in terms of fuel consumption.
The car is to be released some time in 2010 with the hybrid model added to the range in 2011.
