After a promising 2013 was followed up with a very wobbly 2014, Lotus seems to have steadied the ship over the winter and looks in reasonably good shape headed to Melbourne. The switch from troublesome Renault to strong Mercedes power should give a major boost and Romain Grosjean is probably the most under-rated driver on the grid – given the chance, he’ll ruffle feathers.
Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado’s sponsorship is important to the team’s financial stability, but his ongoing tendency to have silly accidents will limit the amount of points it can bring home.
Our verdict: Lotus looks on course for a much stronger performance this season than the last – watch out for the pace of Swiss Grosjean in particular.
