Citroen Xsara

At this end of the chart most of the low-scoring models have now been replaced, and CitroenÂ’'s Xsara is a good example, with its C4 successor faring much better. However, for many used buyers the Xsara is a tempting proposition. You tell us itÂ’s reasonably practical, but find it tricky to drive and don'Â’t rate the handling. Low scores for build quality and reliability are due in part to the 35 per cent of models that suffered electrical faults. A cheap used buy, but there are better alternatives.

Your Quotes

“Underpowered, unreliable and very tatty after six years. Multiplex wiring makes the electrics expensive to fix, and the climate control is broken beyond repair.”

Mr Peter Goss - Essex

“It's a reasonable car, nothing special but it does the job.”

Mr Karl Kathuria - Bedford

“A car that is okay but that is all. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.”

Mr Alexander Smith - West Lothian

“Dont keep it longer than three years.”

Mr Anthony Mayfield - Nottingham

“Very reliable workhorse, very underrated by the media!”

Mr David Green - Habts

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

Wow! CitroenÂ’'s in seventh heaven. While 23rd overall is hardly cause for celebration, a jump of seven places is a huge step in the right direction for the firm that found itself only seven steps from last place in 2006. Focusing its attention back on to producing design-led models that are genuinely desirable, it looks like things are on the up. However, thereÂ’'s still a long way to go...
