84Renault Megane (new)80.89%
Way before HondaÂ’'s Civic broke the compact family car mould, Renault took a similarly bold step with its Mégane. But even though itÂ’s distinctive, you tell us the model is close to the bottom of the class. Most unacceptable is its reliability score, with 41 per cent of Méganes suffering an electrical fault. A further 13 per cent had engine trouble, while 28 per cent of owners reported other niggles that took the shine off Renault ownership. To compete, the Mégane is going to have to improve.

“The car is now three years old, and there are rattles, the engine is not powerful as I thought, the pedals could be aligned better and the rear wiper is useless.”
Mr Ian Slater - Bedfordshire“I am pleased with the car so far and apart from a couple of little niggles with the keyless entry I am very satisfied.”
Mr David Solly - Surrey“Megane CC – briliant! Diesel or auto would be better, but that was up to me. I own other cars too, and the CC is for weekends and sunny days.”
Mr Hugh Bourne - Essex“As the car is three years old now rattles are starting to appear, but engine not as powerful as I thought, peddles could be aligned better, rear wipers useless, and rear vision, all in all disappointed with car.”
Mr Ian Slater - Beds“A big improvement on previous Renaults that I have owned. Build quality is excellent, the car is smooth and quiet but can run out of steam when overtaking. Front seats are extremely comfortable and adjust to suit. Panoramic roof is a must have for summer weather as this gives the illusion of being in a cabriolet. Pleased with the car so far but a little worried as reliability record is not great. Hopefully, the car with give me hassle-free motoring for the three years I intend to own it, although most items should be under warranty if any problems do occur.”
Mr Mark Odell - Northamptonshire“Has proved reliable. Only problem has been the passenger window motor (common to most 3-door Meganes) that was fixed under warranty”
Mr Jonathan Keen - Essex“Overall a fair car. The ride is not the best and the power is pathetic given the 2-litre engine. The folding roof mechanism has had a couple of problems and recently had a couple of leaks fixed under warranty.”
