Renault Laguna (new)

Another Renault, another poor report. And this time, the reliability is even worse. The Laguna was voted 99th in this category and 94th for build quality. A disgruntled third of the owners who filled in the survey experienced electrical gremlins, while 67 per cent said something had gone wrong in the past three years. No surprise, then, that the Renault failed to live up to the expectations of 24 per cent of its drivers. A new Laguna is due later this year – and you tell us it can'’t come soon enough.

Your Quotes

“This is the worst car I have ever owned. There are constant electrical faults and with less than 50,000 miles on the clock, major mechanical parts need replacing.”

Mr Noel Elkin - County Antrim

“This is the second Laguna I have owned. The first, the previous model, was a complete nightmare, this car on the other hand although having only minor modifications is very different. The ownership experience is much improved and more in line with my expectations.”

Mr David Tease - Aberdeen

“Back seats don’t fold flat. Tows well, too wide for garage, Good consumption on a run, poor on short runs, Looks good.”

Mr Ron Blount - Northumbria

“Okay until clutch failed after 31,000 just after warranty expired and had to fight tooth and nail to get them to offer me half of the cost of the repair. Total bill was £900.”

Mr George Thompson – Midlothian

“Good economy, comfortable ride. Main dealer servicing expensive. Always have to rebook car in, never gets fixed first time.”

Mr Allan Collis - Beds

“It does the job I bought it for but it doesn’t excel at anything but it gets me from A to B without any fuss.”

Mr Andy Gordon - Essex

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

Starting a double bill of French underachievement, Renault has finished just in front of its arch-rival Peugeot. Now joined in a technology-sharing alliance with Nissan, Renault bosses will be disappointed to have finished 11 places behind their Japanese partner. A more pressing concern is that a huge 19.2 per cent of Renault drivers say they wouldn'’t buy another –– a shocking statistic.
