Jaguar S-Type

By Jaguar’'s own admission, the S-Type needs a major makeover. And that'’s what it'’s set to get in January next year when the new XF goes on sale. However, the outgoing model is still good enough to grab 25th place. So where does the XF need to improve? Well, it has to offer greater practicality –– you tell us the S-Type'’s cabin is very comfortable, but lacks space and versatility. Lowering running costs would also be a bonus. But maintaining its key strengths on the road is essential.

Your Quotes

“The 4.2-litre V8 is a peach, and the six-speed automatic keeps fuel consumption to an acceptable 25-28mpg on motorways. It's really comfortable, too.”

Mr Gerry Brennan - Derbyshire

“Extremely practical for everyday use, yet sporty when needed. Design of alloy wheels is poor with choice limited and expensive. Very enjoyable to drive fast when possible. This is my second S- Type and have found quality of servicing both poor and expensive.”

Mr John Millward - Shropshire

“Characterful, (I quite like retro looks) excellent performance. Comfortable, too.”

Mr John Thompson - Bucks

“Really like the drive and feel of the Jag - my S-Type R is fantastic.”

Mr Georges Patounas - Berkshire

“Other than a minor oil seepage S-Type Twin Turbo Diesel has performed faultlessly.”

Mr Leslie Spencer - Lincs

“Remarkably unreliable for such a prestige car. A joy to drive nevertheless and cannot see anything much better out there for my personal needs at the moment.”

Mr Paul Williams - Essex

“The car itself is wonderful, fuel economy is poor but not that bad for a 4.2 V8, it has been converted to use LPG, but I have had no end of issues with the conversion, maybe a survey should be done by yourselves on this.”

Mr Tim Matthews - Hants

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

Smoothly does it! Although Citroen’'s C5 topped the ride quality chart, Jaguar takes the overall honours in the category with its range of luxurious models gliding over rough roads and potholes. Maintaining a top 10 position, the Ford-owned firm has a lot of satisfied customers. As more examples of the new XK appear, along with the S-Type replacing XF, Jag will be hoping for even better in 2008.
