Mazda 6

With more drivers turning to people carriers and SUVs to meet their family car needs, the hatchback market is feeling the squeeze. But here'Â’s proof that itÂ’'s not all bad news. Mazda'Â’s 6 has bucked the trend and climbed four rungs up our chart. Sharp looks, a versatile estate and agile handling have all helped the Mazda to win you over. Interestingly, while the 6 has proved very reliable, you would like it to be a bit better built. ThatÂ’'s a top tip for Mazda, which is already working on the 6Â’'s successor.

Your Quotes

“This is my second Mazda 6. The car is fantastic value for money - put a BMW badge on it and the price would shoot up another £10,000.”

Mr James Linke - Lincs

“I have been very happy with the Mazda 6 and I am always confident that it will get me to my destination with no reliability problems.”

Mr Phil Gibson - Cheadle

“Very nice, obviously popular from all the others I see around.”

Mr Gwen Puckrin - Harrogate

“Excellent, practical car that has plenty of performance and low running costs.”

Mr Roger Melville - Herts

“The Mazda 6 MPS is an understated performance package, at a `bargain' price, which never fails to give sheer driving pleasure every time it is used. Well equipped and appointed with good ride comfort and superb handling.”

Mr Michael Holt-Chasteauneuf - Lincs

“My last car was a Volvo 60 it was unreliable and the garage was rubbish, I've only put petrol in this car.”

Mr Phil Sheeter - London

“Looks good, drives well, is reliable, comfortable and safe. It also takes the whole family plus luggage in comfort, 3 of us over 6ft! It has been used for student removals, no troubles, handling still good. So it ticks all the right boxes.”

Mr Ian Miller - Towcester

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

A brilliant top five position for one of JapanÂ’'s top firms. Coming under the Ford umbrella, Mazda has finished a full 15 places ahead of its parent firm. Even more satisfying is that the one place gained in our chart has been at the expense of premium brand BMW. With a broad range and plenty of new models on the horizon, Mazda will be hoping to continue the upward trend in 2008.
