Vauxhall Vectra (old)

At launch in 1997, the original Vectra was left in the shade by the Ford Mondeo – and it still hasn’t endeared itself to owners. Dated underpinnings are no doubt to blame for 98th and 96th ratings for ease of driving and handling, while you were also critical of running costs, brakes and reliability. Cheap to buy – but maybe not cheap enough.

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

A shocking performance. Vauxhalls are reasonably practical and frugal, but little else recommends them. Can the firm expect continuing strong sales if this is how drivers rate it?
