THe French firm claims to have made huge leaps in quality and reliability with the recently arrived fourth-generation Laguna, and these are undoubtedly the problem areas for the outgoing car. However, the family model is seen as a smooth operator – it was 38th for comfort and 40th for ride. The large boot helped it to 48th for practicality.

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

And the award for least reliable brand goes to Renault. Along with shoddy build, perhaps that is why it’s stuck in 33rd. Could the more upmarket new Laguna range revive its fortunes?
