Vauxhall Astra (new)

Oh dear. It’s not been a good 12 months for the Astra. Despite a minor facelift early last year, it has slipped seven places in the Top 100. You’re not big fans of the comfort and don’t find it easy to drive. A narrow boot aperture and cramped rear seat space come in for criticism, too. But it’s reliable and proves reasonably cheap to run.

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

A shocking performance. Vauxhall's are reasonably practical and frugal, but little else recommends them. Can the firm expect continuing strong sales if this is how drivers rate it?
