With rivals in the top 20, Audi’s just-launched, all-new A4 can’t come soon enough – although considering that this outgoing car dates back four years, this isn’t a bad result. Tenth for build quality impresses, while 23rd for performance suggests the range of engines is popular with owners.

MANUFACTURER VERDICT

It won’t please Audi to be behind BMW, but it’s ahead of Volvo and Mercedes. Build quality is its best feature – only Lexus and Porsche fared better – but practicality isn’t great.
