HAILED as the future of urban transport, the Twizy is a four-wheeled tandem seater that crosses a scooter with a car.

It’s been designed to be as cheap as possible, at around £4,000, and it can do 50mph, plus has a range of 60 miles thanks to a battery mounted under the driver's seat, while the 20bhp electric motor is mounted directly behind under the passenger seat.

Access to the cabin is gained by opening the scissor-style door bars on either side. “It’s very close to production,” Stephane Janin said. “Buyers will get to choose between doors or bars.” And the vehicle feels remarkably production ready. Throttle response is sharp, the steering accurate, plus it’s stable and manoeuvrable. Amazing visibility and the feeling of the air rushing past your ears mean it’s great fun!
