| This has to be the most modest eco car on the road, with not so much as an ‘e’ badge in sight. | |

Not only is the Ford £3,000 cheaper than the new Audi, it drives beautifully, too. But with 53.3mpg economy and 139g/km emissions, it lags some way behind the A4.

Without doubt the best news from Audi since the A4 1.9TD engine, performance and economy is really something to believe in and no doubt that Audi will deliver as stated . Forget the S Line, far too harsh for UK's unmaintained roads.th slighly lower appeal will do a good job and look right, keep to 16" inch wheels and all makes perfect sense..
A very impressive 61.4mpg combined although with BMW's new 2.0 diesel 5 series promising a power output of 177bhp while matching the Audi's 120g/km of CO2 it is a shame that the 'e' Audis don't have that little extra power. I would be interested to see what the combined mpg of the next gen 3 & 5 series BMWs are in direct comparison to the new Audi 'e' range.
Audi is a fine drive but very expensive to mantain once out of warranty, it costs a lot to keep them going once out of warranty, makes it a difficult ownership car, most steering and elecrical parts start failing soon.
Not a long term ownership recommendation as I see my associates complain every other month about something or another.
Took delivery of my 2.0 TDIe and I have to say I'm very impressed. It's great to dive, really comfy and quiet, and the engine pulls well from any speed.
It has lots of nice features that I didn't know about (or had forgotten!).
Highly recommended.
You have compared the A4 with the 316d but it would be better to compare it with the new 3 series Efficient Dynamics model. We have owned one since June and I do believe that the BMW is much more economical. The Audi has a much better boot but overall I think the BMW is a better car. The only problem with both cars is that you can only buy them with manual gearboxes.
If you’re looking for incredible efficiency but don’t want to shout about it, this is the car for you. The A4 TDIe returns fantastic economy and emits amazingly low CO2, yet it looks exactly the same as any other A4. It drives like one, too. The steering is communicative and there’s more grip from the low-rolling-resistance tyres than you’d expect. While the BMW 316d is marginally better to drive, as an overall package the Audi has it beaten.
