Model tested:
Mercedes CLS 320 CDI
WHY? It’s not strictly a coupé, but the CLS is a stylish cruiser, and although less powerful, the Merc is considerably cheaper.
AT A GLANCE: With its dramatic styling, road presence and sheer class, the Merc is the more grown-up of these two rivals. That’s clear once on the move, as the CLS is supremely comfortable. Body control is not as tight as the BMW’s, and it won’t appeal to the keen driver as much as the 6-Series.
