Based on the original Mini, the Moke was initially designed by Sir Alec Issigonis as a military vehicle – a bit like a Willys Jeep. However, with its tiny wheels and limited ground clearance, it couldn't quite cut it off-road, so the Moke was offered to customers as a cheap and cheerful beach buggy! Using the same engine, gearbox and suspension as the Mini, the Moke's cheeky look and utilitarian feel meant it became hugely popular throughout the world, particularly in the Seychelles, Australia, the US as well as many tropical holiday destinations in the Caribbean. Production ended in the early Nineties.
