December 2010

2011 is set to be the year of the MINI. As downsizing becomes the watchword, parent firm BMW is set to turn up the heat on the MINI line-up.

Responding to new market demands, the current MINI hatch, Clubman and Countryman will be joined by two new production cars, three concepts which preview production certain models and an electric scooter!

What’s more, the firm makes its return to the WRC with a rally-prepared Countryman, and as you read this, MINI’s rally-raid car will be taking to the stages in South America on this year’s Dakar rally.

In this MINI special, we preview what’s shaping up to be the firm’s busiest year to date.

BMW and Mini?

When I hear these words a tired smile comes over my face! I seriously think they should stop selling Wheat Beer lunchtimes in the board and management canteens/restaurants in the 4 cylinder towers in the Vierzylinder Haus on the Spiridon-Louis-Ring in swinging Munich!

Where do they get these funny designs? Or is there something more sinister behind all this Mini business?

When is a really enthusiastic British designer and company going to come up with the Real ADO 15 range of Minis as they should be? Over to you British Technical Colleges and Cranfield?

My heart bleeds

I am so glad that Sir Alexander Arnold Constantine Issigonis, CBE, FRS is no longer with us. If he was still around and could see what has happened to his creation, he would slash his wrists.
He created something for the people. BMW are simply milking it to line their pockets. The goals of Issigonis and BMW are poles apart. His honors speak volumes about the man. Will the CAD operators who come up with the current models be honored by their peers like Alex? No way, no how.

RIP Alex. Some people remember and respect you throughout the bastardization of your vision and creation.

The more the better!

I can't beleve people are been so negative about all these new minis, I'm sure Sir Alexander Arnold Constantine Issigonis, would love to know that his creation has been rebuilt, and modernised for the here and now! And millions of people still loyal to his brand after all this time.
