You couldn't Mistake this car for anything but an Audi.
But is that a good thing?
Surely its time for Audi to be a little more adventurous with their styling.
Yep, it's so dinky you could imagine it sitting in its box on the top shelf of the toy shop and on that basis alone you could almost forgive the fact that it's more of the same old cloning that Audi stylists have been up to for decades.
Audi's defence would no doubt be something like "the A1 isn't a clone of anything that's gone before ... Audi's success throughout many years means there are aspects of the car that will understandably be familiar ... yada yada yada".
But it's all a bit lazy really. Same goes for BMW and Mercedes.
Just consider the current Mazda 3 for a moment and its predecessors going back to, say, the 1970s. Like them or not, you can't deny that each one has been a totally fresh face whilst still looking intrinsically "Mazda".
I don't see how the interior can be described as "Quality", The awful grey plastic is endless (soft touch or not) and the dash design is nothing special! When will this "Look at the King- Look at the KIng" nonsense about German cars cease from AE editors?
The German car makers don't offer better quality than others, what they do is use more expensive components (sometimes) then pass the extra costs on to the buyer at the till! This is not rocket science and all the car snobs need to remember/realise.. YOU DON'T GET IT FREE!
