MINI holds off the new Audi A1 and wins best Premium Supermini with its stylish hatchback.

MINI

Why it won...

For the past decade, the MINI has ruled the premium supermini roost unopposed. But in the last year, an armada of talented newcomers has sailed into the sector.

As a result, the MINI’s award-winning performance this time round is even more impressive. While rivals offer more style, greater accommodation or better value for money, none can match the all-round appeal of the Oxford-built hatchback.

Retro-inspired lines, boisterous driving dynamics and endless personalisation options are at the core of its success, while BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology and brilliant pre-paid servicing packages help owners to keep their running costs down.

It’s not without its faults – the ride is firm and rear space cramped – but the MINI’s character makes these easy to forgive. It had better watch out, though, as Audi’s new A1 will be in contention next year.
