Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X GSR FQ-360

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X GSR FQ-360

The giant-killer of the performance-car world, the rally-bred Evo has always had the point-to-point pace to match powerful and exotic supercars. The most potent FQ-360 continues the bloodline.

Around our Anglesey test circuit, the Evo’s lap time embarrassed many more powerful rivals. The driving experience is totally unique, too; despite the saloon shape, the stiff chassis and virtually non-existent body roll ensure it changes direction without hesitation. Turn into a corner and the controls are so sharp they’re almost unnerving! Four-wheel drive means traction is superb. You need to be aggressive to get the best from the FQ-360, and the turbo’s punchy delivery and the short gear ratios add to its manic nature.

That combination of grip, sharp handling and power makes it a fast and effective road car. But it lacks refinement for day-to-day use, despite losing the razor-sharp gearchange and ride of the Evo IX. In fact, we prefer nearly everything about the old model. In edging away from its hardcore traditions, the latest hot Lancer has lost ground.
