Performance Car Of The Year 2011

Our annual fast car shoot-out tests and rates 30 of the most exciting models to drive in the world.

Welcome to the biggest and best Performance Car Of The Year contest in Auto Express history.

This year has been a bumper one for fast cars, as we rank the 30 best high-performance models to hit showrooms in the past 12 months, including our defending champ from last year.

We rated them by considering everything from desirability and performance to price and availability, and our top 10 went through to a final shoot-out at Anglesey Circuit in Wales.

The long drive there also gave us the opportunity to put our contenders to the test on some of the UK’s most challenging roads, and our verdict takes into account everything from raw pace and driving fun to everyday usability.

Our winner would be the car that gave us the most thrilling and memorable drive, not necessarily the fastest lap around the demanding track.

We first visited the Anglesey track for our PCOTY shoot-out in 2003, and we’ve been using the 1.2-mile National configuration since 2007.

We’ve also listed a rundown of the lap times for every car to have taken part since 2007, so you can see how the class of 2011 compares with our list of past masters. They reveal some startling facts and show that the best cars just keep getting faster.

We also confirm the identity of the model that you voted the most desirable performance car of 2011 in an online poll.

Will it match our verdict? You’ll have to read on to find out...
