Freelander 1 got a lot of bad press, but this 04 model (my second Freelander), now approaching 6 years old, has been a great car for me.
I actually think the old Freelander looks smarter than the Freelander 2, which is why I'm waiting for the facelift (possibly 12 months or so) before I replace my car.
The only real critisism is that stoware space is poor - the glove boxes are just a joke. Can just about carry a Turkish Delight - at a push!

Given the type of vehicle I have chosen, I have no complaints at all. Yes, it's thirsty and built like a brick but I knew that before purchase. It is not as "Enjoyable" as my Range Rover Sports hence the "Maybe" buy again - it's a lovely car but not a Range Rover Sports !!! Only one fault and I waited until the 1st service so no inconvenience.

Rough diamond. The car had a water leek that was a common fault. Unfortunately the garage I used was unaware of the fault and therefore did not diagnose it for 3 years. After the car overboiled I took it to a different garage who identified the fault immediately. The leek led to head gasket failure and a two thousand pound bill.

Really pleased we decided on a proper 4x4, which was chosen for its towing ability, but was great in recent snow/ice.
Had a diesel leak in the first week of ownership, which took weeks to repair, but had a replacement car for the entire period (and tow bar fitted at reduced cost as a goodwill gesture by dealer).

It is a good car for countryside living. If you want to go on motorways you will be sticking to the speed limits or straining your engine.
It is not built for speed but was fantastic in the recent snow, my neighbours were stuck in there houses but i had no problems

Excellent overall. The more technical cars become, the more likely they are to suffer occasional problems. Problems, whilst inconvenient, aren't the end of the world as long as the manufacturer and their dealerships resolve them in a highly Customer focused manner.

I am very pleased with my car although it was a compromise because of where we live. I would buy the same again but would have to buy a better specification as I luxuries that I had on my previous Jaguar.
