A new teaser image could preview the new flagship Lexus RC-F coupe

A teaser image of what appears to be the new Lexus RC-F – a high performance model that will rival the BMW M4 - has been released. The RC first debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show earlier this year, based on the Lexus IS and we've heard plenty of rumours that an F-badged model is on the way.

Lexus news and reviews

The image reveals nothing other than a new alloy wheel design and bulging wheel arch. If it belongs to the RC coupe, this F variant will feature a much more aggressive design with larger air intakes and sculpted flanks. Under the bonnet, a 5.0-litre V8 has been rumoured, with power somewhere in the region of 455bhp. It could also feature cylinder-deactivation – a first for Lexus – to help improve fuel economy.

It can't be seen from this teaser shot but at the rear, it's likely the RC-F will feature 'stacked' exhasuts like on the outgoing IS-F model.

There is no official word on pricing but expect to pay around £65,000 for the flagship model when it arrives late 2014.

Excellent - we need cars like this to a) stick two fingers up to those trying to take the fun out of driving and b) to offer a viable alternative to the usual default choices.

Hope it retains the noise, drama and urgency of the previous IS-F model
