I drove a Mazda 3 hatchback to the South of France last year, and it ran like a charm there and back, fully loaded plus bikes on the back. On that easy-drive basis, I really want to like the new range, but have to say I find the whale mouth and slab sides a bit hard to take. Maybe familiarity will improve them...

Sorry, total fan Photoshop job. Look at the profiles of the sedan and hatch - they're the same backdrop, and the proportions are not right. Sorry to be a kill-joy...
