McLaren has released a cryptic teaser shot of its follow-up to the awesome P1 hypercar

McLaren's latest teaser image isn't giving a huge amount away but it's rumoured that the McLaren 650S being trailed by this pic will be a heaviliy revised version of the 12C.

The 650S is set to be a faster, lighter version of the McLaren 12C (the car formerly known as the MP4 12C) and looks likely to feature a 641bhp (650PS) version of the car's 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8. The standard 12C 'only' extracts 616bhp from the same engine so buyers are in for a significant performance boost from the newcomer.

With the awesome McLaren P1 hypercar dominating the headlines at the moment it's not unreasonable to suggest that the 650S might bring elements of that car's imposing styling to the more affordable end of the McLaren range.

The McLaren 650S will be officially unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show on March 4th but we'll have pictures and details of the car for you next week. Watch this space.
