A lighter and faster version of Mercedes' virtual AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept has been revealed

Mercedes has unveiled a pumped-up version of its AMG Vision Gran Turismo concept, called the Racing Series, for Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3. It’s based on the original concept but is substantially lighter, features several styling tweaks and also gets a boost in performance.

The low and curvaceous body remains untouched but Mercedes has added a fixed rear wing to help increase downforce on high-speed circuits. The oversized alloy wheels are now framed in red, while conventional door mirrors replace the CCD cameras on the original concept.

Under the elongated bonnet, Mercedes has tuned the twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 engine to develop 583bhp – only a 6bhp increase – but has also reduced the overall weight of the car by 85kg. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been replaced in favour of a sequential ‘box, sending power to the rear wheels.

The AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series has been added to Gran Turismo 6 for the PlayStation 3. Gamers can take the concept for a virtual test drive by participating in the new Seasonal Event, which is available only for a limited time.
