Mercedes is in the late stages of developing its very first coupe-SUV.
Mercedes is now at work honing the safety systems on its super-SUV, which is why this high-performance AMG version has been spied with slow-motion camera-friendly colouring on its grilles, mirrors and exhaust pipes.
The entire car features orange paintwork, as is usual for in-house Mercedes safety testing, but the rest of the bodywork is still disguised ahead of the model’s expected debut next year.
The new car’s name is also a closely guarded secret for now: MLC, ML Coupé and MLS have all been rumoured for Mercedes’ BMW X6 rival. This 63 AMG variant will use a development of the ML 63 AMG’s 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, rather than the new twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 being readied for the new C63 AMG and AMG GT supercar.
Power should climb from the current ML 63’s 517bhp to 577bhp, in line with the new E63 and S63 models. A power hike for the existing ML could follow when that car is facelifted next year.
Buyers considering this hot ‘MLC’ 63 AMG shouldn’t expect much change from £90,000.
