Rally day’s safety lesson

Learn to drive like a champion with Prodrive and Subaru, and it will help to make you safer on the road

By Simon McBride

31st March 2007

The firms have just opened up their track experience events to the public. Multi world rally champ Prodrivehas launched a driving day based at its test facility in Kenilworth, Warks – a potential home for its new Formula One team – to give all motorists a taste of what it’s like to be Subaru ace Petter Solberg.

For your money, you get to try much of the Japanese company’s range, including the 300bhp Impreza WRX STi, the Legacy Spec B 2.0R and Forester 2.5 XT. Professional instructors will teach you key rally driving secrets, such as left-foot braking and the Scandinavian flick.

As well as setting you on the ladder to being the next Colin McRae, the aim is to highlight skills for use in everyday driving. The experience takes in a 1.4-mile high-speed circuit, a tarmac rally stage and an off-road course.

Subaru World Rally Team driving day, price: £250, booking on: 01676 536002, www.prodrive.com
