The sporty VW Scirocco has finally broken cover. These leaked pictures reveal the look of the German firm's new showroom-ready coupe days before its official Geneva Motor Show debut.
As you can see, the newcomer is heavily influenced by the IROC concept car that first appeared at the 2006 Paris expo. The nose has been toned down, losing the large trapezoidal grille, while the distinctive rectangular exhausts have been replaced by a more conventional twin set-up.
However, the rest of the exterior is carried over largely unchanged, complete with the muscular shoulder line, shallow side window profile and low sweeping panoramic glass roof.
Set to use Golf mechanicals, the Scirocco should be as good to drive as it is to look at. No information has yet been released, but expect to see the 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo from the GTI and the powerful 3.2-litre V6. Diesel fans are likely to be offered a version of the firm's new common-rail oil-burner.
Full details of the exciting new model will be released when company bosses unveil the car at next week's Geneva show. Check out www.autoexpress.co.uk over the coming days for the latest updates.
