Software shows car’s vital stats on phone screen

09th August 2008

New software that lets you rate your car’s performance via your mobile phone is an accident waiting to happen, road safety charity Brake has warned.

The kit uses the accelerometer on the Apple iPhone to record 0-60mph times, display g-force and draw real-time speedometer graphs on the screen. Creator BusenTech says the Dynolicious package will accurately compute your car’s actual horsepower and drivetrain efficiency – features normally associated with costly dedicated monitoring units.

The £6.50 kit is available for download now from the Apple iTunes service, but Brake argues it could encourage irresponsible driving. “We hope nobody tries to use this kit on public roads, where you would put lives in danger by pushing a car to its limits,” a spokeswoman said.
