Scot Allan McNish took an incredible victory in the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta, US, despite crashing his Audi on the warm-up lap.
By the time the squad got its diesel-powered R10 repaired and back on track, they were two laps behind the front-runners. However, McNish, plus co-drivers Dindo Capello and Emanuelle Pirro, set a blistering place, reeling in the leading Peugeot 908 of Christian Klein, Nicolas Minassian and Stephane Sarrazin, before passing for the win with only 35 minutes of the 10-hour race remaining. McNish praised his mechanics afterwards. “This victory belongs to the team,”
he said. “To get the car repaired when I thought we were out of the race, they did something I didn’t think was possible.”
