Swiss manufacturer creates maddest concept yet

Rinspeed iChange

Car manufacturers don’t come any crazier than Swiss firm Rinspeed, and it’s pulled out all the stops for its home motor show in Geneva. Called the iChange, this unique concept claims to be the only car in the world that adapts according to the number of passengers on board. At the push of a button, the rear of the one-seater sports car transforms to create enough space for three.

The iChange also marks a new direction for the company – keeping energy consumption to a minimum. Weighing in at just over 1,000kg the lightweight car is powered by an electric motor while its teardrop-shaped body is extremely aerodynamic. And this is one concept that can really shift too. The 0-60mph sprint takes under four seconds, and it keeps going all the way to 137mph.

The iChange does without doors as well. Instead the entire roof assembly tilts forward to allow passengers on board. And technology junkies will love that instead of keys an Apple iPhone controls all the car's major functions.

Unfortunately it will never make production, but the iChange should make larger manufacturers think twice about how a modern car is designed,
