24th February 2010

Spyker has finalised its deal to purchase SAAB from GM. The deal means that Spyker Cars NV becomes the umbrella firm under which Spyker and SAAB will operate as independent sister companies.

The deal secures the future of SAAB, and its Swedish workforce, as the firm finally has the go-ahead to launch its long-awaited new 9-5 saloon, along with an estate version later this year.

SAAB’s CEO, Jan ΅ke Jonsson, said: “Today’s announcement is great for SAAB’s customers, dealers, suppliers and employees around the globe, the level of passion and support shown to Saab over recent months has been remarkable and this does bode well for the future.”

Commenting on the deal, Victor Muller, CEO of Spyker said: “We are delighted - Saab’s future is now secure.” He continued: “From today we will be concentrating all of our efforts into reviving SAAB and transforming it into a sustainable and profitable company with the confidence to be bold.”

hope

I hope spyker can make something of this. The stupid yanks never know how to run UK businesses. Ford had aston and Jag, made a pigs ear of those prestige brands and used Volvo electronics across its ford range, it just shows how much ford didn't trust their own technology. Kraft buying Cadburys and all i can hope they don't start selling Kraft branded flake or wispa in the US, Its a crap dull looking brand compared to the Cadburys brand. I always considered Sweden to be the German eqv and I want to see SAAB innovate new class leading technology and bring in some serious competition to the car market rather than just be another mass producer like vauxhall or ford. If the substance is there then the product will sell and lets boot those GM engines for good.

Great news

I had a string of SAABs until GM bought them and delivered the seriously dull cars of late. Let's hope that some individuality can be brought back to life in the SAAB range to counter the utter dullness in the marketplace.
Getting shot of the chrome headlight wraps on the current cars will be a start, oh how we all love American design touches - urgh...

FINALLY A GOOD COMPANY TO LOOK OVER SAAB

those jokers at GM think they know cars, think again, everything they have done over the years is Mass Marketing of sub standard automotive models and engines, mostly borrowed and copied technology especially on the diesel side, they have the lawyer and the borrowed moneys to rig up anything ,
does not make them a good car company, maybe now Spyker will show the world a thing or two about better car building.

GM have had terrible managers for years!

And that is really why they ended up with SAAB which was a bad aquistion for many reasons! This was then compounded by terrible GM Managers at board level with no idea of real marketing and what to do with SAAB.

Fact is that this will be a real struggle for SPYKER without support or a liason with one of the big manacturers now. And cash to finance anything will be tight!

Plus as we know from struggling OPEL there is a vast overcapacity in auto production in a shrinking European Market? Why buy a SAAB? I can get other cars cheaper and better from Asia!

Lets hope Spyker can design a SAAB that looks remotely stylish.
For goodness sake get away from that boring and repetative front grill!
