MEET Ferrari’s racecar for the road! Derived from the firm’s hardcore 599XX experimental racing car, the GTO represents the most extreme version of the firm’s two-seater 599.
Despite sharing its looks with the 599 road car, the newcomer is actually a toned-down racing car that’s been homologated for road use, hence why it has been given the classic Gran Turismo Omologata moniker.
Just 599 cars will be built, each powered by an uprated version of the Enzo-derived 6.0-litre V12 engine. Power is up from 612bhp to 661bhp, while weight tumbles from 1,690kg to 1,605kg, allowing the GTO to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds – 0.3 seconds faster than before – and hit a top speed in excess of 208mph.
Despite the increase in speed, the higher-performing GTO is actually slightly more fuel efficient than the standard car. Thanks to its tweaked automated manual gearbox, which is the only transmission option, the new car returns 16.1mpg and emits 411g/km – the standard car manages 15.9mpg and 415g/km.
But the headline-grabbing statistic is that the new car will lap Ferrari’s demanding Fiorano test track in 1 minute 24 seconds, a full 2.5 less than the standard 599. This is thanks to a number of high-tech features which have filtered down from the 599XX programme.
Alongside the obvious enhancements to the exterior, the GTO gets sophisticated electronics which Ferrari claims virtually eliminate understeer; a new generation of carbon ceramic brakes and so-called wheel donuts which fit over the brakes to improve aerodynamic efficiency and cooling.
The GTO will make its public debut in Beijing later this month, but is on sale in the UK now with prices starting at around £300,000. However, a spokesman from Ferrari said that owners are expected to spend far more than that personalising their cars.

Title says it all.
What a brute (i love it) - but where's the sound system?..LOL.
The author should have at least admitted that there was a mistake in the post. I wrote via this forum that the 599 is a two seater as opposed to the article originally saying it was a four seater.
My original comment was deleted and then the article was fixed without so much as admitting the error.
looks just like a Corvette from the side
Apologies for the deleted comment. Drixtab, you are right, the 599 is a two seater. We have updated the story, with the correct information.

it looks like a tarted-up Corvette
A different trim level on a 599? Why did you make out it was a new Ferrari? This isnt a new car, its an updated old one. Do you really need hits on the site that badly?
What an awesome creation!!
It would be a shame if it didn't have the 599XX's soundtrack though.
But I am very glad it still has air-con as standard. Perfect.
Question: Would anybody buy this 599 GTO over the GTB, or even the new 458 Italia?
The 599 GTO is such an amazing car. It looks better than the Enzo and it is faster too. Ferrari have brought back the GTO badge with power and style!
i was at maranello on the 1st of April 2010 for a visit and i have a video of the new 599 GTO when it was on the circuit for test driving!!!
I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but come on “liveforever”. This is a true modern interpretation of a classic genuine historical theme. If you are a genuine car fan, you will get it, but look at what Ferrari have done to change the finer points and you should agree what this is all about. I haven't driven one but I have driven the HGTE and if the GTO is half of what the HGTE pack has done to the Fiorano, then this justifies the kudos that it deserves. But, you know what, the GTO won’t be half an improvement, it will be more, it will be so good, so much more of a drivers car, so different that it wont deserve to be designated a different variant but it will deserve to be known as a different model. It will deserve what the GTO badge means "Gran Turismo Omologato". Remember it's not just a historical badge, but it’s probably history in the making. Again..............................
so, I am obviously a big fan of this car!!! I had a 599 before (currently got a Scuderia) and reckon this is going to be the most incredible car. I've followed the spy shot websites for a while and spoken to people who have visited the factory and seen this under development.... I am very confident it will be worthy of the GTO badge. Check out this video from Fiorano test track to hear just how incredible this car sounds when opened up!!!! Go to: http://www.autogespot.com/nl/item/7330/filmpje-ferrari-599-gto-raast-over-het-circuit!.html The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the wheels: I think Ferrari should have used centre-lock wheel hubs on something this special! (Porsche have them on their more driver - oriented GT3 road cars costing less than a third of the price).... I am off to the factory next month to spec the car - mine will be rosso corsa without the black roof, black interior with the carbon 'race' seats and without any radio or sat nav.
I prefer the original 250 GTO. Ferraris' fanatical obsession with aerodynamics has produced a generation of ugly Ferraris.
Need I say more? And its is only a different trim level basically, it is in no way a new model.
My lord this is amazing!! it looks mean - yum yum!!
