Here are the best pictures yet of the car that Vauxhall hopes will have the Scirocco running scared. Our spies managed to bag these shots of the new Astra Sport Coupe prototype in the firm’s top secret scrap yard, before it was sent to the crusher. And the shots reveal a car that is substantially different to its five-door sibling.
Penned by British styling chief Mark Adams, the three-door Astra Sport Coupe features a different front bumper with larger air intakes and Led daytime running lights. This particular car also features Vauxhall’s panoramic front windscreen which extends back into the roof.
But it’s in side profile that the changes are most obvious. The tick-shaped crease which runs front to back along the lower doors on the five-door car now runs the opposite way, just like on the larger Insignia, while there’s a much more prominent boomerang-shaped feature shoulderline which runs back from the door handle.
The roofline is much more aggressively shaped, with steeply sloping rear glass and a rear spoiler that’s integrated into the sheet metal. At the rear, there’s a new bumper design and narrower, pointier LED taillights than those on the more conservative five-door model.
The Sport Coupe is set to become the third member of the new Astra family when it is unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October. The Sport Tourer estate model will be unveiled later this month.

Do you think Vauxhall should LED daytime running lights as standard to this Astra? It's my personal opinion that they should.
*add
not only are vauxhall prices artficially high, but have they started making 3 door honda civics under licence? (the 5 door looks more like a SEAT leon than the SEAT leon!). come on vauxhall i have owned an astra coupe and know you can do better, lets get back to good looking value for money cars and maybe you will get back into the black
Having just bought the Insignia, I guess that im a little bias toward this car simply because it looks so much like a 3 door version of mine. Yesssss vauxhall should make the LED running lights standard. They do add a bit of class to an already supurb vehicle. Nice lines Vauxhall
It looks like a 3 door Fiesta to me. But just on angle can't show the whole picture & it might just suprise everyone.....or not!
Looks like a Fiesta! Cmon guys...you can do better than that!!!!
Looks like an ugly version of the Megane Coupe
Really disappointing.
It appears Mr Adams is being influenced by aspects of Ford and Honda's design languages and has shoddily slipped in a last minute re-design. The crease looks plain odd, the vehicle looks nothing like the concept which promised so much...

Let's not forget that the finest work of the Ford Designer, Martin Smith, remains the MK5 Astra Sport Hatch so who's emulating who?
Bit disappointed by the looks after the beautiful MK5 3dr, though the weird beige paintwork doesn't help and why's it in the scrapyard?
Will wait to see what it ACTUALLY looks like when it is put on show.
Window/roof line from a Ford, front bumper looks like that of the Corsa VXR, I wonder which car they borrowed the tail lights from (because unfortunately they're not visible here)? Megane, perhaps? Insignia? Also, the crease is a bit too strong. I can see what Mr. Adams was going for, how it comes off the door handle, but it's a little too deep. That should be a subtle touch.
I'll wait for the inevitable press images before making a judgement on this car properly, but it needs to be memorable. The 5-door Astra came out and immediately looked a couple of years old. Less anonymity please.
"Looks like an ugly version of the Megane Coupe"
...which itself is just an ugly misproportioned version of the current Astra sport hatch.
