A month ahead of its on sale date, Chevrolet has named its price for the Cruze hatchback - a value-for-money rival to the Ford Focus.
Available with a choice of two petrol engines and one diesel (a smaller oil-burner is also on the way), the Cruze comes in three trim levels - LS, LT and LTZ - and is backed up by a five year warranty. Kicking off the range is the 122bhp 1.6 LS, costing £13,995 and kitted out with air-conditioning, remote locking, electric-front windows and aux input.
Moving up the range, both the 122bhp 1.6 petrol (available with an auto 'box for an extra £1,000) and 163PS 2.0 VCDi can be ordered in LT trim and cost £14,895 and £17,195 respectively. This adds cruise control, electric windows all round, a multi-function trip computer, parking distance sensors, 16-inch alloys, and a leather steering wheel and gearknob to the equipment list.
Finally a 139bhp 1.8-litre petrol and the 163PS 2.0 VCDi engine are offered in range-topping LTZ spec, costing £16,095 and £17,795 respectively. This throws in Bluetooth, a USB port, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, an electro-chromatic rear view mirror, 17-inch alloys and aluminium-effect trim on the instrument panel.
And for the diesel model only, you can take it a step further with the LTZ Executive Pack, which gets leather trim as standard, along with satellite navigation and heated front seats for £19,295.

GM must be mad trying to sell this for 14k, I suspect it'll be discounted almost instantly and is really a 10k car if ever I saw one. Doesn't look a bad car, though in a competitive market it'll struggle.
