13th October 2011

The Audi RS1 is coming. These are the first pictures of the fastest and most powerful A1 yet, which our spies have caught testing at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Details are scarce, but the RS1 is expected to have a 2.0-litre turbocharged TFSI engine with around 280bhp, quattro four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox.

It will sit above the S1 quattro, which is expected to have a 225bhp 1.6-litre TFSI engine.

With that sort of power on tap, the RS1 should do 0-60mph in five seconds and a have a top speed of 150mph. In addition to the extra performance, it will also have a more aggressive look, with flared wheelarches to cover the wider front and rear tracks, plus an aggressive bodykit with a bold front splitter featuring huge air intakes, and a sporty rear roof spoiler.

Lowered and stiffened suspension, uprated brakes and a cabin with sports seats will also feature. The RS1 is expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year, with a price tag approaching £30,000.

Exactly what I'm looking for

I seriously hope this happens. It'd be the perfect trackday car to replace my aging 360bhp Seat Ibiza (No I'm nto a chav, I only use it for trackdays).

WOW

360 ponies from an IBIZA, bet thats a little lively!

Hmmm......

I don't particularly like the A1, but anything this small with around 280 BHP has got to be worth a look!

30K is a bit eye-watering though.

Blimey - £30k for a hatch back?

Odd looking Audi. Test drove one recently - diesel was uninspiring and the petrol version felt like it needed a lot more power. The S sounds more like the right kind of power - but Audi only ever do a couple of RS' at a time, so this will likely be a limited run.

S1 is due to come out next year/2013. I've never seen Audi release an S Model and an RS model at the same time.

£30K

ITS ONLY AN AUDI A1 WITH A VW 2.0T ENGINE & A 4WD SYSTEM IN A SHOE, I WONDER HOW MUCH OF THE £30K IS FOR THE BADGE OOOO ?

Relief!

Audi must have breathed a sigh of relief when BMW released the new 1-series. They no longer have the ugliest premium small car anymore. Not by much though!!

I don't get why people moan about the price, it's Audi for god sake, a top quality luxury brand why bother looking at AUDI if price is that much of a hassle???

I own an A1. Im delighted with it. Would like to test drive this when it becomes available. Beat the mini hands down.

A1 Clubsport

For the RS1 they should release the Clubsport oneoff they did with 490+ BHP now that would be an RS

Audi RS1

Ooh now this is nice... watch out Ford and Vauxhall!!

Competition from the Fiesta ST and the Corsa VXR do not stand a chance against this monster!! Keep up the good work Audi!

30K for it?

More money than seance comes to mind!

By liverpool on 19 February, 2012, 4:17pm

That's 10K just for hoops OOOO???

No way is that car worth more than 20K

By liverpool on 19 February, 2012, 4:20pm

Stop making me laugh Bloodyannoying. Yeah, that 1-series got whacked with the ugly stick alright. And BMW's usual mongrel trick.....pay for 4 seats and only be able to use two! Hope 4 adults fit in the A1. The 135 has a great big 6 cyl engine shoe-horned in, and must be nose heavy compared to the A1. Then the RS1 is endowed with 4WD.....far safer than RWD. I'd like to see this car with all its vents uncovered, and perhaps in another colour ['NOT fridge white tho!!!!] as it looks a bit dumpy in these pics.... If Audi in fact import any to Oz would be the least surprised to see them cost round AU,000 or more.

By barina47 on 15 April, 2012, 1:33am
