Thanks for cheering us all up!
I expect this so called analyst is overpaid to guess and gamble the market, a self perpetuating prophecy, me thinks.
He doesn't know, no one knows for sure, just tabloid style tittle tattle.
But I've already seen diesel for sale for 140ppl - so the way the price goes up all the time, your estimate of 145ppl by the summer sounds very optimistic - it will probably cost that by the end of this week!
This may be the year when I downsize my car to something that is cheaper to run because this problem just keeps getting worse.
You'll see "fuel prices to plummet" and "fuel prices to rocket" every year, in and out.
My best advise? Watch the market, play it by ear, act accordingly. Don't panic over one persons analysis, panic when it actually happens.
Advice*
If you put up fuel prices this causes inflation as nearly everything and everybody uses the internal combustion engine in one way or another. So why are polititians concerned about inflation, when they are the cause. The less money I have in my pocket the less money I can spend, so why is the government suprised when spending is down.
The higher the price of fuel the less is sold. I believe the Government lost over a 1 billion pounds in fuel tax last year, so what would any good quick thinking government do. Put the tax up again and get lower revenues for 2012. If a politician ran a business it would soon go bankrupt.
Oh dear they do its called UK PLC and guess what, its BANKRUPT
A number of years ago diesel used to be cheaper than petrol. This is due to the fact that most crude oils naturally contains more of the diesel fraction than they do the petrol fractions. A lot of petrol is obtained by cracking (breaking down) larger crude oil fractions such as diesel. This extra processing costs money so petrol should be more expensive to produce. So why is diesel more expensive than petrol at the pumps? If you check out the prices of diesel in Europe at http://www.drive-alive.co.uk/fuel_prices_europe.html you will find that in most European countries diesel is cheaper than petrol. So thank you Mr Cameron for screwing us with tax.....
Whilst motorist allow this to happen then nothing will change, if for just one day, the same day, ALL drivers did not purchase any fuel from any garage the fuel companies firstly would lose a hell of alot of money, so would the government via tax and VAT, one day to "Joe average" is nothing but "en masse" shouts out. If this was repeated over the next few weeks (one day only) hopefully it will be noticed more. Several years ago Sheel or Esso had some dealings in some African country that displeased many, and if I remember people picketed the garages and in the reports that followed it was mentioned that the fuel company had lost millions. Lets try a one day boycotte and see what happens.
Just for your information, although it won't suit your adgenda! Mr Cameron has actually stopped some tax rises on fuel since he has been in power. It was Gordon Clown and Tony B'Liar who constantly increased tax on every thing! This was to pay for the social engineering thay wanted! Give people money in the form of handouts, keep them as loyal voters!
Before you try to make a political point, please get your facts right! (sigh)

Oh dear, shad25, I'm sorry to say this would not work at all. If we didn't buy any fuel on one day we'd simply buy it the day before or the day after. We'd all use exactly the same amount of fuel that week, so we'd all buy exactly the same amount of fuel that week.
For your idea to work, we'd have to have a day where, not only did we not BUY any fuel, we didn't USE any fuel, i.e. we all leave our cars at home for the whole day.
If you want to try to organise that... Well the very best of luck to you!
The whole debate is pointless anyway. Oil supplies are running out, despite what the armchair-experts say, and oil prices will simply go higher and higher throughout our lifetime.
[Rumour, 12:08. The tax you pay TODAY is set by the CURRENT government. There is no legacy affect from previous governments, and the current government could reduce fuel taxes at the mere stroke of a pen. But it hasn't.. Stop trying to score cheap political points.]
Since we need fuel for any internal combustion engine to work, the fact that we don't buy fuel for one day won't bother oil companies or the exchequer, because we'll have to buy it sometime so they'll get their profit and tax, anyway.
I shop around, filling up where fuel is cheaper and use my car only when I need to. By doing that, I cut my motoring costs.
It doesn't eradicate the pain, but it does dull it slightly.
sadly :(
I don't want give up my proper drivers car which is 12yrs old but damn how to run it with consumption of only 20mpg.
If at least insurance companies would offer i.e. weekend insurances, so i could buy second car, small modern car to drive from monday to friday
The planet has enough oil reserves for more than the next 100 years, comments made saying oil is running out is just a ploy by oil companies and back-pocket governments to make more money from taxes and oil sales. There is a very good reason BP pulled out of 30 years of Solar power research. Is the Planet dying, no, mother nature is just correcting iteself as it does every so often, has there been an ice age before, yes, will it happen again, yes, is it humans fault, no, it would happen anyway. Are green issues big money makers for governments, yes. There is so much propaganda in todays government media its stupid. Got a brain, use it, dont belive any media, find out for yourself. There is a very good reason MI5 has a person on the board of the BBC. I'll stop now, using up too much oxygen.
